Eucalyptus, brush sanded, oiled.

This remnant of a eucalyptus stump was retrieved from a plowed-up paper pulp plantation in the hills near Fraião, Braga, Portugal. It was hand-cleaned, sanded, oiled, and polished to accentuate the detailed shapes and colors of the remaining hard wood. It is finished with natural linseed oil and shellac.

Eucalyptus, carved, oiled.

This sculpture began as a weathered eucalyptus stump, recovered from a plowed-up paper pulp plantation in the hills near Fraião, Braga, Portugal. It was carved to create a complex surface of hundreds of concave facets in order to emphasize the speckled grain pattern and the jagged shape of the emaining wood. It is finished with natural hard wax oil.
